The Dixie Chicken Fishing Funament is now in it's 11th year, the Funament attracts fishermen from across the country featuring cash and prizes totaling approximately $50,000. The Funament, an annual event, is held in honor of Jim Caudle, and is so called because of Caudle's outlook on fishing and life, "if it ain't fun, why do it?" The event itself is named after Caudle's boat, The Dixe Chicken. Proceeds from the "funament" go toward the development of an artificial reef project, PA01, located west of Caudle's favorite fishing spot, a short distance off the Little River Inlet, and easily accessible to all fishermen. Lauded by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the Jim Caudle artificial reef project is twofold in that it enhances fishing and aids fish stocks by creating habitat. The Funament is staffed by a corps of volunteers whose passion for fishing is intense and whose commitment to marine ecology is equally as strong.
11th Annual dates are May 28-30, 2010
